Since March 20th 2005 I have made several HF-activations from the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, using the call PA1MR/p.
Goeree-Overflakkee belongs to the IOTA group EU-146. Usually these activations take place in the weekends, and equipment is basically always the same; vertical antennas with a 100 Watts transceiver, a generator and a couple of seats and a table. So basically it’s a “Field Day operation”. Preferred mode is CW.
Since operations take place in the open, weather needs to be checked carefully. Usually 24 hours to maximum 48 hours prior to the actual operation the decision is made whether or not to go. Wind is a decisive element, in case the weather forecast predicts more that 3 Bft the activation will be postponed. Therefore announcing the trip will usually take place no more than 48 hours prior to the operation, Usually however it's announced on the day of departure. Then it's just a matter of hours before PA1MR/p is actually "on the air".
The operations are very much fun to do and are usually combined with other activities like fishing. Goeree-Overflakkee is truly a very beautiful island and very popular among tourists for (kite)surfing, swimming and other outdoor recreational activities.
The previous activations took place on the following dates;
2005: March 20th, June 25th, October 15th
2006: June 11th
2007: July 8th
2008: October 11th
2009: September 27th
2010: September 4th
2011: October 2nd
2014: September 28th
Set up for 20m during our trip on September 28th 2014
If you’ve made a QSO on one or more of these days you’re always welcome to work me again when I’m on the island. All QSOs have been uploaded to LoTW. In case your QSO isn't listed in LoTW and/or in the online log below, please feel free to contact me.
